Brownless Biomedicial Library Closure

Due to a redevelopment project the Brownless Biomedical Library is planned to be closed after the standard examination period hasfinished on 26 June, 2009.  It is anticipated that the Library will remain closed until early 2010.

The School of Medicine's prestige is based on a strong record of achievement:

  • It is the oldest medical school in Australia, established in 1862 to provide the highest quality medical education.
  • Graduates include two Nobel Prize winners: Sir Macfarlane Burnet for his contribution to immunology, and Sir John Eccles for his contribution to neuroscience.
  • The school has an outstanding research record and continues to attract more national peer-reviewed research funds than any other medical school in Australia.
  • Students have access to a wide range of clinical settings and world-renowned clinicians and practitioners who teach into the medical course.

Location

The university's historic campus is located in the beautiful suburb of Parkville, a short tram ride to the city centre and within walking distance to Melbourne's cosmopolitan Lygon Street.

The Parkville campus is centred in one of Australia's most highly concentrated precincts of biomedical research, close to major general and specialist hospitals. Students have access to the latest knowledge and discoveries and to opportunities to gain excellent clinical experience.

We also provide opportunities to learn about rural health at our rural campus and clinical school based in the river-land setting of Shepparton.
