We expect that the following types of places will be available but details and sub-quotas are still to be determined: CSP (Commonwealth Supported Places)Students accepting a CSP are liable for a HECS contribution. CSP MRBS places (Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship)Students receive an annual scholarship (indexed). The scholarship amount for 2008 was $23,222. The scholarship is tax free and is not subject to a means test. Students agree to practise in rural areas of Australia for six years upon completion of basic medical and postgraduate training. The scholarship is formalised in a contract between successful scholarship applicants and the Commonwealth. Legislation has been passed to allow the Commonwealth to enforce penalties for breaking the bond. Please note that the MRBS is only available to Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents. For further details please refer to the MRBS website. CSP BMP (Bonded Medical Places) (non-scholarship)25% of all Commonwealth Supported Places must be filled through the Bonded Medical Places Scheme. Students accepting a BMP will be required to sign a contract with the Commonwealth and will have service obligations to the Commonwealth for a period equal to the length of the course, which is 4 years. Please note that BMPs are only available to Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents. For further details please refer to the BMP website. CSP ERC places (Extended Rural Cohort)Students enrolled in this stream will undertake their clinical education in hospitals and community-based practices within the Northern Victoria Regional Medical Education Network. This network brings together the clinical resources of Monash University and the University of Melbourne in northern Victoria.
