Leave of Absence & Special ConsiderationLong leave of absenceSemesters 1 to 7If you wish to interrupt your studies for up to one year, you must obtain approval from the Dean. If you are considering such leave please discuss it with your semester coordinator at the School of Medicine office. A letter to the Dean requesting approval is required. Ordinarily, leave is supported for one year where the circumstances are appropriate. Leave of absence is rarely granted after a semester has commenced. Under normal circumstances students will only be granted one year's leave of absence during the course of their studies. Semesters 8 to 12If you are requesting leave of absence from the clinical years of the course (Semesters 8-12), you will be required to apply at least two months before the beginning of the first semester of your leave of absence. The LOA form must be signed by your Clinical Dean and then forwarded to your semester cordinator at the School of Medicine office for final approval by the Dean. Short leave of absenceSemesters 1 to 5If you are absent for a short period of time during semester for reasons other than illness, you must apply for a short leave of absence. The short LOA form must be signed by your two subject coordinators and forwarded to your semester coordinator at the School of Medicine office for final approval by the Dean. Semesters 8 to 12If you are absent for a short period of time during semester for reasons other than illness, you must apply for a short leave of absence.
