Donations and bequests

Donating to programs in the School of Medicine, University of Melbourne

Many members of the University of Melbourne Medical Society (UMMS) make voluntary donations to support the School of Medicine 's priority teaching programs, research, student prizes and students in financial need. This helps the school maintain the high quality and standing of its medical course and assists students and young researchers in need of support.

Areas in need of support

Priority needs identified by the Dean – significant initiatives in medical education such as the development of integrated learning resources and provision of clinical skills training equipment.

Medical research – support the faculty's promising young medical researchers working to develop cures for the world's major health problems.

Students in financial need – assist medical students who are suffering a disadvantage or who encounter unexpected difficulties.

Student prizes – encourage and support our most talented students. They include the Advanced Medical Science Prize and the Peter G Jones Elective Essay Prize.

Tax benefits

The University of Melbourne is a deductible gift recipient (DGR no. 900283197) under Section 30 of the Australian Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. Gifts of $2 or more to the University of Melbourne are allowable deductions to donors within Australia.

Bequests and memorial gifts to the School of Medicine

Bequests support many important teaching and research programs that contribute to the future wellbeing of the community. Memorial gifts, which are named in memory of a deceased person, can also contribute a long-term benefit to society through the contribution of funds to support education and research, by way of fellowships, scholarships or student prizes for example. Such gifts to the university have played an important role in advancing medical education and research.
