Depending on the focus of their project, students will receive general training in laboratory techniques, clinical measurement or epidemiological methods. The student will learn how to work within a multidisciplinary research team, design research proposals, critically assess the literature, present oral presentations of their research, collect and analyse data and produce a written report suitable for publication. If not directly completing a clinical project the student will be encouraged to link the project to clinical implications and attend ward rounds and clinical meeting. ContentCoursework: N/A Research: The Burns, Trauma, & Critical Care Research Centre was established to further advance the level of care and knowledge given to critically injured trauma and intensive care patients. burns and critical care patients It is a collaborative venture between Royal Brisbane Hospital Burns and Intensive Care Units and the University of Queensland. Our clinical research is based on a solid base of multidisciplinary expertise, including intensivists, burns surgeons, infectious diseases consultants, microbiologists, anaesthetists, cardiologists, neurosurgeons, scientists, epidemiologists, pathologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists and intensive care nurses. Our laboratory research is closely allied with our clinical research. The major themes within the centre are 1] Antibiotic resistance and infection control in the critically ill, 2] Pharmacokinetics and drug distribution in the critically ill, 3] Management and outcome of critically ill, head injury and long stay ICU patients, 4] Management and outcome of burns patients including pain control, myocardial dysfunction, exercise and metabolism and fluid and nutritional management post burn.
