Overall Objectives

  • To exchange research students between collaborating research groups at the Medical Faculties of the University of Oslo and the University of Melbourne. NB: This is part of an official exchange program. Once accepted and formally notified by the AMS Office (after selection process), students must apply through the University of Melbourne exchange office, details available from the AMS Administrator.
  • To provide students with a professional, well funded and social research environment.
  • You will be an integral part of one of the many international research communities at the Medical Faculty.
  • You will be supervised by an experienced scientist and attend a compehensive program of courses and seminars.

Content


Coursework: Coursework will include a basic course in medical research methods, a practical course in either laboratory or clinical/epidemiological research methods, research seminars presented by other students, interdisciplinary research seminars and group sessions.

Research: Students can choose to do research within one of six laboratories. Students are advised to contact individual supervisors for more details.

Assessment Breakdown


Research Component: 75 points
Research Report (up to 7500 words): 85%
Oral presentation: 15%

Coursework Component: 25 points
Basic course in medical research methods (50%)
Practical course in either laboratory or clinical/epidemiological research methods (25%)
Research seminars presented by other students (12%)
Interdisciplinary research seminars and group sessions (13%)

Prospective students please note: to be eligible for any overseas AMS unit, you must have attained an aggregate of at least 70% in the University of Melbourne medical course.
