Overall Objectives


If you want to influence clinical outcomes in Australia then NICS is the place for you!

At the National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS), an institute of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), we will provide the unique opportunity for you to work with clinicians around Australia, to help them put the best available evidence into practice to improve patient care in hospital emergency departments, Indigenous health and for specific issues such as VTE, organ donation and heart failure.

Content


Your NICS-AMS project opportunities may include:

  • Improving the management of patients presenting to emergency departments with pain – 55 hospitals nationally
  • Improving the treatment of acute stroke –to be piloted nationally
  • Improving the routine use of VTE prevention measures in hospitalised patients – 36 hospitals nationally.

If you want to contribute to national health projects working with multiple researchers and you enjoy:

  • Investigative work
  • Reviewing and critiquing medical literature
  • Networking with clinicians and teams nationally
  • Writing scientific reports and papers.

Then NICS is the place for you.

You can also make your mark in the health care field by contributing to a NICS publication. We will provide you with all of the advice and support that you need to achieve this.

Assessment Breakdown


Research Component: 87.5 points

  • Research report that clearly and concisely communicates results and includes recommendations for implementation of the research findings (up to 9,000 words):
    80%
  • Oral presentation: 20%
Coursework Component: 12.5 points
Intermediate Epidemiology and Biostatistics or Qualitative Health Research will be assessed as per subject description.
