Research and Supervision

Each student is allocated a supervisor for the research component of the program. The number of students assigned to a supervisor will vary from one or two in some laboratory-based research projects to a maximum of eight in the social science-based projects. Prior to the start of the AMS year, Unit Coordinators assign students to Project Supervisors, who will supervise the student for the duration of the AMS year. Students and Supervisors have responsibilities to one another, but sometimes have different expectations.

In order to assist with determining the functional arrangement between you, we have developed a Project Supervisor and Student Checklist. We ask that Project Supervisors fill in this form with their student, both sign it and fax or mail it to the AMS office (fax: +61 3 8344 0188).

The meeting between the Project Supervisor and the student to complete this form should occur as soon as possible after the start of the AMS year, if not before. Students and Project Supervisors are provided with a copy of this form prior to the commencement of the AMS year.
