Funding

Host Departments or Institutions will receive a maximum of AUD$5000 for hosting a year-long (38-week) placement. This fee may be dispersed at their discretion for the purpose of defraying the costs incurred by hosting the student. This may include, but is not limited to, costs associated with:

(a) Office space
(b) Consumables
(c) Supervision
(d) Marking of assessment (where applicable)

We do not provide students with any direct financial assistance, but students have been alerted to a number of applicable scholarships and grant schemes.

External Institutions

Students will remain enrolled in The University of Melbourne for their AMS year. Students should not, therefore, be expected to pay tuition fees at an additional institution. At institutions outside The University of Melbourne, there are various strategies for students to have passage to facilities and resources, such as laboratory and library access. Some institutions, for example, have organised a type of "professional placement" or "visiting scholar" arrangement for students, which avoids enrolment, and thus the issue of fees. Alternately, some institutions have arranged fee waivers and will nominally enrol AMS students, thereby granting them access to university facilities.

Please see Important Dates for the semester dates of the AMS year.
